Protocol Validation Suite

PCM, TDM & I2S Protocol Validation Suite

Validate PCM, TDM, and I2S audio device compliance with timing and electrical specs using our NI PXI-based suite. Cuts test time from weeks to days.

Product Details

Pulse-Code Modulation (PCM) is a serial communication protocol designed to transfer analog signals in the form of digital signals between integrated circuits. It operates by sampling the amplitude of an analog signal at uniform intervals, ensuring that the sampling rate is sufficiently high to capture the essential details of the waveform.

Time-Division Multiplexing (TDM) is a communication protocol that allows multiple signals to share a single channel by assigning each signal a unique time slot within a fixed sequence. TDM’s ability to efficiently divide and allocate time slots for various data streams makes it a valuable technique in scenarios where multiple signals need to be transmitted over a shared channel without interference.

I2S (Inter-IC Sound) is a serial communication protocol designed for transferring digital audio data between integrated circuits. I2S is used for its high-quality audio transmission, precise synchronization, efficient data transfer, and compatibility in various devices, making it a preferred choice for digital audio communication.

As a part of product validation, it’s important to validate the product’s conformance against the protocol specification to ensure the interoperability of the product. As the complexity of the protocol and product increases, validation time of the protocol interfaces also increases which in turn reduces the RTM. Performing the protocol conformance testing in traditional way needs lot of time and effort.

Soliton’s PCM, TDM & I2S Validation Suite is an off the shelf validation tool using NI’s PXI Platform, which helps to validate the devices’ compliance with timing and electrical specifications of the PCM, TDM & I2S protocol. Users have claimed that, using this automated solution for PCM, TDM & I2S Validation has brought down the test time/ validation time from few weeks to a couple of days.

Peek and Poke GUI for interactive debug of the TDM & I2S interface. This helps to exercising and debugging the TDM & I2S communication manually. User can configure any allowed timing/voltage parameters to debug the transactions.
